Jobs Data Worse Than Expected

Jobs Data Worse Than ExpectedNorthern, WI 9/8/2011 (PennyPayDay) – The weekly Initial Jobless Claims were up 2k from the week before to 414k for the week ended September 3; the expectation was for 405k.

Continuing Claims were down 30k from the week before to 3.717 million for the week ended August 27.

The federal extended and emergency benefits programs fell 78k to 3.597 million for the week ended August 20.

There were no special factors for this week’s Claims report, but because of the Labor Day holiday the results for California, Virginia, Hawaii and the District of Columbia were estimates.

In July the US Trade deficit was $44.8 billion, significantly below the estimate, and the June deficit was revised down more than one billion to a deficit of $51.6 billion.

The reason for the decline in the deficit was that Exports were up 3.6% on the month, while Imports fell 0.2%.
