Gainers
Monster Beverage Corp. (Nasdaq: MNST) shares rose 11%. The company reported strong first-quarter sales growth as well as wider gross and operating margins.

News Corp. (Nasdaq: NWSA +5.26%) shares were up 5.3% a day after the company’s report of better-than-expected fiscal third-quarter results and its pledge to add $5 billion to its existing $5 billion stock repurchase plan. News Corp. is the parent company of Dow Jones & Co., which includes MarketWatch, the publisher of this report.

Tesla Motors Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA +11.38%) shares climbed 14.4%. On Wednesday, the company posted a drop in first-quarter revenue and profit, but said it expects to begin delivering its all-electric Model S in June, a month ahead of schedule. The firm also upped the low end of its 2012 revenue estimate.

Decliners
Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO -8.56%) shares fell 8.5% a day after the firm issued a weaker-than-expected outlook for the current quarter, as Chief Executive John Chambers pointed to a “cautious” spending environment.

Silicon Graphics International Corp. (Nasdaq: SGI -20.79%) shares tumbled 20.5%. Late Wednesday, the company trimmed its outlook for the full year.

Universal Display Corp. (Nasdaq: PANL -8.99%) shares fell 10%. The company reported that its first-quarter loss narrowed, but the results missed Wall Street expectations.

Universal Display up 11%: Q3 Crushes Estimates, Higher Q4 ViewOrlando, FL 11/9/11 (StreetBeat) --Lighting products maker Universal Display Corp. (Nasdaq: PANL) said Tuesday it turned a profit in the third quarter on a sharp upturn in revenue. The results topped Wall Street expectations and Universal Display's shares were up more than 8 percent in extended trading.

Universal Display reported a profit of $6 million, or 12 cents per share. A year earlier it took a loss of $7.2 million, or 19 cents per share. Its results from the third quarter of 2010 included a $3.4 million non-cash loss on stock warrant liability. Revenue more than tripled to $21.8 million from $7.1 million.

Analysts expected the company to post a loss of a penny per share and $12 million in revenue, according to FactSet.

Universal Display said its development revenue rose to $11.9 million from $4.2 million and commercial revenue increased to $9.9 million from $2.8 million. The company said most of the growth came from an increase in chemical revenue.

The company develops organic light-emitting device technologies, materials and services to the display and lighting industries.

The big revenue gains in the quarter "may signal the dawning of the OLED era," said Sidney Rosenblatt, Universal Display's chief financial officer.

Universal Display's shares climbed $4.06 to $53.50 in aftermarket trading following the release of the earnings report. Currently, shares are trading up 11% at $55.05.

Universal Display shares were climbing 11.3% to $57.

Discount retailer Dollar General reported second-quarter adjusted earnings 52 cents a share, compared with the average analyst expectation of 48 cents a share.

Shares were spiking 4.2% to $35.20.

Jacksonville, Fla.-based supermarket operator Winn-Dixie Stores forecasted adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of $120 million to $135 million with same-store sales seen rising 2.5% to 3.5% for fiscal 2012 after topping Wall Street's profit expectations for its fiscal fourth-quarter results as same-store sales rose 3.2%.

Australian mining company Macarthur Coal has yielded to a sweetened 4.83 billion Australian dollar ($5.12 billion) offer from coal company Peabody Energy and steel producer ArcelorMittal.

ArcelorMittal shares were down 1.9% to $20.72.

Offshore contract drilling services company Transocean has been downgraded to neutral from outperform by Macquarie. Shares were sliding 1.6% to $54.23.

1-800-Flowers.com posted breakeven fourth-quarter earnings per share vs. the Wall Street consensus target of a penny a share.

Drew Industries, a leading parts supplier for recreational vehicles homes, said its wholly-owned subsidiary, Kinro, bought windows manufacturer Starquest Products for $22.6 million.

Independent oil and gas company Clayton Williams Energy now plans to spend $385 million on exploration and development activities in fiscal 2011, a reduction of $54 million from previous estimates. The company has also lowered its oil and gas production expectations for the remainder of the year.

CoreLogic has hired advisory firm Greenhill & Co. to help the real estate and financial information company explore strategic options, including a possible sale or merger, Reuters reported.
