Shares of discount retailer Dollar General were popping 7.4% to $32.64 after reporting earnings of 64 cents a share in the fourth quarter. Analysts expected the retailer to earn 59 cents a share.
Handheld device maker Research In Motion was rising 0.6% in premarket trading to $62.55 after it said Tuesday the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will be sold starting April 19 from all Best Buy stores and Best Buy Mobile stores in the U.S.
Oil giant Exxon Mobil was up 0.4% to $83.20 and BP was rising 0.9% to $46.23 as allied airstrikes against pro-Moammar Gadhafi forces continued to stoke uncertainty about Libya's ability to resume oil exports.
Drugstore chain Walgreen was flat at $42 after reporting second-quarter earnings of 80 cents a share, in line with expectations.

AT&T said on Sunday that it will acquire T-Mobile USA from Germany's Deutsche Telekom, potentially creating the largest U.S. wireless carrier. AT&T shares rose 32 cents Monday to $28.26.
