Oxford, MS 3/18/2011 (PennyPayDay) -- Town Sports International (Nasdaq:CLUB), operators of New York, Boston, Washington and Philadelphia Sports Clubs, today announced a new fundraising initiative in conjunction with the American Red Cross to support relief efforts in Japan. As leaders in health and wellness, TSI will encourage and incentivize new members to improve their lives through exercise while helping victims of the devastating earth quake and tsunami in Japan. Beginning Thursday, March 17 through March 28, the Sports Clubs will donate the entire new members' $25 joining fee directly to the American Red Cross. To donate to the relief fund, philanthropy-minded fitness enthusiasts are encouraged to visit and join a Sports Clubs in the New York, Boston, Washington DC or Philadelphia regions.
"TSI mourns the incredible loss of lives following the recent tragedies in Japan," said Robert Giardina, CEO and President of TSI. "Through this initiative we look to offer whatever assistance we can as Japan recovers from this devastating series of natural disasters."
TSI's partner, The American Red Cross, is accepting monetary donations as the organization assists victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. The American Red Cross is in contact with the Japanese Red Cross to assess needs and provide resources as needed. It is more efficient for disaster relief agencies to purchase needed resources locally and for immediate distribution with the disaster area. The best way for U.S. donors to help Japanese disaster survivors is to make a cash donation.
